The Chesapeake Humane Society is seeking friendly, compassionate candidates for a full-time Veterinary Assistant position. The Veterinary Assistant must be able to safely and humanely restrain pets for medical procedures, assist with surgery preparation and recovery, clean and sanitize veterinary equipment, and conduct educational conversations with clients regarding vaccinations, post-operative care, etc. Previous professional animal handling experience is required, and the ideal candidate will have experience in the veterinary field, especially as an assistant in a surgical setting.
This position requires the ability to work from 7 am to 4 pm, Tuesday through Friday. Candidates must have a high school diploma, valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. All CHS staff must demonstrate willingness to discuss euthanasia and open-admission sheltering in a non-judgmental, non-confrontational, fact-based manner.
