Chesapeake Humane Society has many adoptable pets looking for their forever homes. Our cats are free-roaming within the adoption center so it’s easy to drop by to see their personalities. All of our dogs are in loving foster homes. Please scroll down to view our adoptable pets on our Petfinder feed or visit our Petfinder page.
Our adoption fees (listed below) help to cover a fraction of the cost of providing food, shelter, and veterinary care for our adoptable pets. CHS does not profit from these adoption fees.
Kittens (Less than 6 months): $100, Cats: $75 – includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, FVRCP vaccine, FIV/FeLV combo test, de-worming, flea/tick treatment, and veterinary exam.
Step 1: Determine the pet that is best for your lifestyle. Since your new pet will be with you for the rest of its life, this is an important commitment that should not be rushed! If needed, our adoption counselors are happy to guide you and help you find your perfect fit.
Step 2: Select your pet and complete the adoption application. Filling out an application does not obligate you to adopt. Submit your application online or at the Humane Society.
Step 3: Once your application is approved, we can schedule any additional meet-and-greets (if needed).
Step 4: Provide a loving new home for your new addition to the family! We encourage you to keep in touch with us – we love receiving updates and if you ever need advice, we are here to help!

This sweet lady is Arlene, a four-year-old hound mix who absolutely loves humans and other dogs. Arlene is gentle and goofy. We suspect she was kept outside in her previous home as she is still learning house manners in her foster home. The TV gave her quite a spook! Arlene loves going for walks, playing with other pups, and snuggling. Because so much is new to her, she is timid around traffic and loud noises. She needs a patient home to show her how great the world really is! Arlene is currently undergoing heartworm treatment which is included with her adoption.
