ADOPT A PET
Chesapeake Humane Society has many adoptable pets looking for their forever homes. Our cats are free-roaming within the adoption center so it’s easy to drop by to see their personalities. All of our dogs are in loving foster homes. Please scroll down to view our adoptable pets on our Adopt-a-Pet feed or visit our Adopt-a-Pet page.
Our adoption fees (listed below) help to cover a fraction of the cost of providing food, shelter, and veterinary care for our adoptable pets. CHS does not profit from these adoption fees.
Kittens (Less than 6 months): $100, Cats: $75 – includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, FVRCP vaccine, FIV/FeLV combo test, de-worming, flea/tick treatment, and veterinary exam.
Puppies and Dogs: $175 – includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, leptospirosis vaccine, canine flu vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, de-worming, flea/tick treatment, veterinary exam.
How to Adopt a Pet
Step 1: Determine the pet that is best for your lifestyle. Since your new pet will be with you for the rest of its life, this is an important commitment that should not be rushed! If needed, our adoption counselors are happy to guide you and help you find your perfect fit.
Step 2: Select your pet and complete the adoption application. Filling out an application does not obligate you to adopt. Submit your application online or at the Humane Society.
Step 3: Once your application is approved, we can schedule any additional meet-and-greets (if needed).
Step 4: Provide a loving new home for your new addition to the family! We encourage you to keep in touch with us – we love receiving updates and if you ever need advice, we are here to help!
COVID-19 Adoption Procedures
For the health and safety of our staff and adopters, we have temporarily adjusted our adoption procedure. We are accepting visitors by appointment only for those families that have approved adoption applications. Please read the following steps below if you are interested in adopting.
Step 1: Submit an adoption application online
Step 2: Someone from our adoption team will contact you and let you know the status of your application.
Step 3: You will be offered to do a virtual meet and greet with the animal or schedule an appointment to come and meet the animal you are interested in.
