Spay & Neuter Services

Chesapeake Humane Society proudly operates a low-cost spay/neuter clinic to help reduce the overpopulation of animals, particularly for those who may not otherwise be able to afford the service. We have altered more than 12,000 animals since 2008, which has prevented the birth of tens of thousands of unwanted and unexpected pets!

Choosing to spay or neuter your pet doesn’t just decrease overpopulation. Pets who are spayed/neutered tend to live longer, healthier lives because they are less likely to run away, start fights, or develop certain cancers. Spaying/neutering your dog, cat, or rabbit can also help curb undesirable behaviors like spraying or mounting.

Spay/neuter surgery is a routine, one-day process. Pets are dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. Please note, spay/neuter surgery is by appointment only.

Appointments

If you’d like to request an appointment for a spay/neuter, please submit a request here:  Appointment Request

Please be aware that it may take more than five business days to respond. We do have a high volume of requests. In order to be seen through our clinic, we require that your pet is up-to-date on rabies, heartworm test, and heartworm prevention and we ask that you email medical records to clinic@chesapeakehumane.org. If your pet is not up-to-date on any of these requirements, we can provide those services for you.

Surgical appointments are generally scheduled about a month in advance and require a $50.00 deposit.

Thank you for your patience as we do our best to keep our staff and clients safe.

Experiencing an Emergency?

We are not a full 24-hour service facility or emergency clinic. If your pet needs emergency care, please contact The COVE or Bay Beach Veterinary Hospital. If you think your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.

We do not offer euthanasia appointments at this time. If you need low-cost euthanasia services, please contact Chesapeake Animal Services (Chesapeake residents only) or PETA.
